
Sharing Experience: Building Monitoring Infrastructure of a Telecommunication Company Based on IBM Products
Within the scope of the event, IBM experts and business partners
demonstrated various practices of use and building of IT infrastructure and
services, which correspond to companies' business objectives. The technical
capabilities of IBM solutions were demonstrated. An exhibition featuring the
business partners' solutions was also organized at the sidelines of
corresponding sessions. A separate session was devoted to the issues of
ensuring information security.
Experts of VimpelCom and Bell Integrator, which were partners of the
forum, shared their experiences of their implementation and operation of their
IBM Tivoli Netcool-powered centralized monitoring system. During his speech at
the Efficient Management of Cloud Services and IT Infrastructure of a Company
session, Boris Borisov, VimpelCom technical and service monitoring systems'
development department manager, shared the experience of IBM Tivoli Netcool
centralized monitoring system's implementation and operation at VimpelCom. IBM
Tivoli Netcool solution ensures management of accessibility, capacity and
security of services in all technological areas of infrastructure, including
(IP, ATM, FR) networks, mobile communication, IP-telephony, operating systems
and servers, business applications, security means, etc. Borisov spoke on the
preconditions of the implementation and the stages of execution of the
company's project of developing an IT umbrella monitoring system and
telecommunication infrastructure. Today, the completed solution has been
operating for six years, and since 2011, Bell Integrator has been implementing
further linear development aimed at integration of the control systems and
supporting the solution. This year, the mid-term and long-term concepts of
further Netcool development have been jointly drawn up and approved by
VimpelCom.
The choice of this solution made more than six years
ago was defined by several factors. First of all, Tivoli Netcool is a complex
solution, which is scalable and adaptable to almost any business and technical
tasks. Additionally, it has flexible mechanisms of integration with vendor
EMS/NMS and other OSS systems (e.g., with Inventory and Trouble Ticketing
systems). Solutions of this class help automate internal processes and reduce
the time of response to arising problems, which in the end helps improve our
